Forskningsprojekt

Augmented Reality - Integration of the immaterial world in architectural space and design process

Tina-Henriette Kristiansen, Ph.d.-studerende, arkitekt MAA
Afd. for Kommunikationsdesign og projekt WorkSpace
Arkitektskolen i Aarhus

The Ph.D project operates in the field of Augmented Reality (AR). It investigates how an integration of the digital, immaterial environment, can be incorporated in the “analogue”, physical world. The two environments merge into a hybrid reality, challenging our cultural and social conventions, as well as our perception of coherence in matter and cause..
The Ph.D. project seeks to challenge AR from an architectural point of view. How will the global digitalisation affect architecture of the future. How does architecture operate when values of space, time, place and conciseness become fluid, when the things and objects which surround us, have become intelligent, interactive and communicate with one another, as well as us.
In this hybrid field new spatial, architectural values and architectural forms will emerge, challenging our perception of context. What will the shaping of our physical environment entail, when digital properties are an inherent part of it. What is possible, and what is desirable.

The Ph.D. is affiliated with the EU financed research project WorkSPACE. “Distributed Work support through component-based SPAtial Computing Environments”

WorkSPACE is a research project within the program ”the disappearing computer”, sponsored by the European Commission (IST/ FET). The project addresses work-support for architects and designers in Augmented Reality settings. The Ph.D. project is partly based on the planed physical experiments within WorkSPACE, and takes the work and concepts, into other spatial contexts, ex. in the home and in an urban context.

Ph.D. project is affiliated with Dansk Center for Integreret Design (CID)
