Field of research Keywords: Design, Augmented Reality, Spatial Computing, Future perspectives of work environments. My main interest is new technologies combined with Design and Architecture. I'm currently working on a project carrying the title: "Design processes enhanced through Augmented Reality". The project is done in collaboration with InterMedia Århus. The project focuses on how to support ad hoc meetings by means of new technologies aimed at the work processes of designers and architects. The thesis is that few design solutions are made under formal meetings, but rather is accomplished through ad hoc meetings emerging spontaneously. My aim is to support this activity by applying new technologies in an Augmented Reality environment, where both the physical and digital objects reside. The challenges are to make a perceptual coherence between the physical and the digital environment both regarding the visual impact and the handling of objects. ______________________________________________________ This is a draft of my paper for the DARE2000 conference held i Elsingor in April Augmented Reality - in an Architectural Perspective Applying augmented reality technologies to rooms and spaces will effect the perception of the architectural space. A part of working with interactive rooms is to investigate our expanding possibilities for interacting with digital technologies, from today's restricted use of fingertips on a mouse to include the whole body and this way enhancing our range of expressions for activating and communicating with and by technologies. The perception of architectural spaces involves all our senses listen, touching, watching etc. and the total result of these impression could be seen as an atmosphere of the room that tunes us into a specific mode with both restrictions and possibilities for activities........ Draft for DARE paper (doc) Paper for CVE´00 conference This a paper for the Collaborativ Virtual Environments CVE´00 conference which I co-authored with people at University of Lancaster and Computer Science at Aarhus University. Abstract This paper describes Manufaktur, a prototype of a concept and infrastructure that goes beyond the classical CVE systems toward a collaborative augmented reality environment, where users documents and objects appear as live representations in a 3D workspace. Manufaktur supports collaborative, distributed work across platforms. It provides the possibility of display on the MS Windows and the SGI IRIX platforms with mono and stereo-graphic displays ranging from a monitor built into a table to a Holobench. The emphasis is on representing the materials with which people are working, and the actions they are taking with them, and far less on the visual representation, e.g. through avatars, of the collaborating persons. It seeks to facilitate users collective self-organisation of environments, spaces and traces that embody the trajectory of their work. Paper for CVE´00: Collaborative Augmented Reality Environments (pdf) Presentation of WorkSPACE and Augmented Reality This is the slideshow I presented at an internal conference in CID, presenting the current state of my research project and the upcoming EU finansed research project WorkSPACE. The project will be carried out in collaboration by Sociology at University of Lancaseter, Computer Science at Aarhus University and CommunicationDesign at the School of Architecture in Aarhus. The methods described are developed by IDEO and Computer Realted Design at Royal College of Art in London. To see the slideshow click below.
